May 15 meetingJEANNE HYLAND - Watercolor demo by Zoom
The Evolution of Wet & Workable Watercolor
And I have developed a method to keep the painting “workable” for hours — to lift, sculpt, glaze, layer colors and values. Painting lights back in later in the sequence is more typical of oil & acrylic processes.
After some years of painting in watercolor, I realized that there was much more flexibility in how you can work than initially taught. Those limiting “rules” were made to be broken. Moving to a MUCH dryer climate necessitated figuring out how to keep washes wet enough to control the paint and edges without rushing to do so. It was challenging! For a live evening Valley Watercolor Society demo in 2010 that was to be videotaped using warm lights, I needed to devise a way to work my “process”. I tried borrowing from acrylic painters who keep their paint wet using special pads. I’ll reveal my solution during the demo as it has tremendous utility in working in watermedia and works on paper 2023 MVAL Virtual Members' Show |
